Top 5 Organic Restaurants in London

April 20, 2015

All too often people associate Organic food with vegetarian food; this is absolutely not the case. There are several ideas around what organic actually means but generally speaking it means food that has not been subjected to chemical treatment such as fertilizer or pesticides during its life cycle, this should include the feed given to “organic” animals. This of course may lead to higher costs and shorter shelf life, but on the upside, fresh, wholesome food tastes great.

Amico Bio

Amico Bio is a small Italian organic restaurant in East Central London, much beloved by its patrons. The cosy Trattoria styling and friendly staff compliment great quality food to make for a very pleasant dining experience. Despite the proximity to the city centre and the organic label, Amico Bio is not an establishment which has plumped for the high price bracket. The average diner is well fed and quenche0d of thirst, often with change from £20. The menu is changed regularly to keep the ideas and experience as fresh as the food. Amico Bio, 44 Cloth Fair, London EC1A 7QJ.

Tibits London

Tibits is vegetarian organic, operated by the same family who established the brand very successfully in Switzerland. The large restaurant has a self service buffet style and is again very reasonably priced, especially for an independent venture, just off Oxford Circus. On average customers spend around £10 each, although it is open for breakfast until after the theatre crowds leave, so snack customers influence that figure. That said they have a large loyal following and the variety of food on offer makes it appealing to non vegetarian types as well. Since you can have as much wholesome, quality food as you can eat in quirky, friendly surroundings, the only reason to go anywhere else is if you fancy a steak. Tibits, 12 Heddon Street, London W1B 4DA.

Smiths of Smithfield

The only reason that Smiths Of Smithfield, Top Floor is not higher on this list is the price tag, you do however, get what you pay for. As the owner is a celebrity chef who delivers very honest criticism to the contestants on the “Masterchef” TV programme, there is no scope to cut corners. The location, service and food are absolutely top notch. The restaurant is, as the name implies on the top floor of a four story listed building, which offers absorbing views over the city. The speciality of the house is rare breed steak and meat accompanied by carefully selected wine. The traditional British menu is also known for high quality fish dishes. This spacious and scenic establishment has a cool contemporary vibe that runs through the food, the decor and even the attentive, knowledgeable staff. If you want something special, this is the place to be. If you have ever watched John Torode on television, the restaurant delivers exactly what you would expect, quality and finesse. Clarke’s Restaurant

Clarke’s restaurant is a small, independent, very British establishment owned and run by Chef Sally Clarke. This format has built a loyal customer base with plenty of word of mouth referrals since 1983, a very good track record for a unique style. The food is very high quality and cooked with the touch of someone living their dream. The warm, comfortable and classy atmosphere with the best food available makes for a gem of a restaurant punching well above its weight.
