Easter: Everything From Decor To Dinner

March 24, 2015

At risk of getting a tad too excited, I’ll start by saying that I really do love Easter. This time of year could arguable be one of my favourites. When you get to spend time with family, feel thankful, eat sweet treats and just generally enjoy yourself, why wouldn’t I?

I don’t know about you, but all of this can be a little much to handle all at once. I learnt the hard way with that one. The first year that I really wanted to make an effort with Easter, I went head first into all of it and ended up in a bit of a pickle. Needless to say, the baking was a flop and dinner pretty much got ruined.

But, I got better and I’ve never looked back. With Easter just around the corner, I thought it would be the perfect time you take you through my preparations to hopefully inspire you a little or even help you out if you’ve ever been a little stuck, just like I was.

Preparation Makes Perfect

It really does. You pretty much know what you want to do beforehand, so get to it and get started. If you’re planning on getting Easter eggs for your children, friends or rest of the family, then get them early. Shops seem to fill up with them weeks (if not months) in advanced, so snap up the ones you know they’ll love whilst you still can.

For the day itself, if you’re planning on cooking what will you make? Is there anything you can prepare in advance? Even if it’s just the day before. Or, if you’d love to head out to dinner, get your reservations in before everyone else – especially if there’ll be a lot of you and you’ve got a specific time and place in mind.

Get in the Spirit

Just like you would any other holiday season, get yourself in the spirit. For me, there’s no better way than with Easter decorations – and you can really have fun with them. After a really long (and cold, might I add) winter, it couldn’t be more apt to celebrate spring with all the prettiness that comes with it. We all know Easter is a very ascetically pleasing time of year, so you know the decor is going to be good.

With everything from chicks and tulips to bunnies and bonnets, there’s definitely something to find that you can have fun with. For me, Pinterest is the first place I head to for inspiration. You can find all sorts of crafty ideas to get creative with your decor. With teacups as centre piece vases, cotton wool bunny tales and eggshells used to make pretty much everything, you can’t not feel inspired.

Pinterest also comes in handy for food too. You may want to head out for Easter dinner, but if you’re staying in and cooking for your friends and family, it’s worth having a quick search to see if anything takes your fancy.

Of course you can opt for the traditional meats and fish, with all the trimmings but there’s also treats with bunny themes that are just so fitting for the occasion. Baking it also a huge thing for Easter and although eggs can be fun, there’s nothing quite like a homemade cake to set the day off.

What to Do with Who

With Easter being such a family and friends focused occasion, it can be tempting to do everything with everyone, but don’t. It can get a little much. I’ve tried. Maybe do a brunch or early breakfast with some, pop to church (if you’re going) with others and then have everyone for dinner. It can also be fun to break up the day like that.

Then, we get to the good bit. Well, in my eyes it is anyway.

Fun for the Kids

If you’ve got kids, have friends with kids or have kids in the family, you’ve got to do an Easter egg hunt. Of course you can still do this if you’re spending the day with adults alone, but the kids really do love it. They’ll have their eggs of course, so maybe you do the hunt with something other than chocolate.

Getting out and about, running around and generally having fun with your loved ones is what makes this occasion so special.

And remember, Easter is a day to be enjoyed so make that your first priority and you’re bound to have fun.
